We will be welcoming Leon Botstein, who was unable to travel to Estonia due to the restrictions last spring, to conduct ERSO for the first time. Born in Switzerland, Botstein has lived in the United States since early childhood. He studied history and philosophy in addition to music in Chicago and Harvard. Since 1992, he has been the Chief Conductor of the American Symphony Orchestra in New York. In 2015, he founded the innovative and progressive Orchestra Now, which focuses on music education. Botstein works with numerous different orchestras worldwide and is the editor of the prestigious American music science magazine The Musical Quarterly. The concert will be held in cooperation with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
The soloist in Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 will be Hyewon Chung, the winner of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and Estonian National Symphony Orchestra Joint Award for a student of EAMT at Tallinn International Piano Competition 2021.
